Our patients are low income, uninsured, and face structural and systemic inequality. To be eligible for our program, patients must earn less than 400% of the federal poverty level, and most earn considerably less. Many are unable to qualify for Medi-Cal or Covered California because of their immigration status, age, or income. Earning less than a living wage, our patients cannot afford health insurance coverage, especially because affordable Covered California plans are not available for undocumented people. When they need surgery or specialty care, they suffer disproportionately. Many choose to forgo the care that would help them get back on their feet because the cost is too high. We provide a solution.
