THE IMPACT OF OPERATION ACCESS
By providing access to care promptly upon diagnosis, OA helps to prevent medical emergencies and enable patients to receive a comprehensive course of treatment that otherwise would not be available to them.
We measure success and document results by administering surveys to all patients upon completion of their treatment. The average cumulative rating by patients of seven aspects of their care through Operation Access on a scale of 1(worst) to 5(best) was 4.87 in 2007, 4.78 in 2006, 4.89 in 2005, 4.85 in 2004, 4.78 in 2003, and 4.63 in 2002.
In addition patients reported whether the following results occurred as a direct result of surgery:
| > |
93% had improved health |
| > |
93% had an improved quality of life |
| > |
82% had an improved ability to work |
| > |
84% had improved mobility |
| > |
88% had relief of pain/symptoms |
*From 2007 patient satisfaction survey
In 2007, 662 surgical and specialty services were provided through Operation Access, and there were 2049 medical encounters. The value of these donated medical services was $1,652,500. The amount was calculated based on 130% of the Medicare reimbursement rates.
More difficult to measure, but just as significant is the impact on each individual’s life of a hernia surgery, cataract removal, or orthopedic surgery. Each individual story is a different manifestation of how receiving necessary care improves their health, ability to work and quality of life. Click here for patient testimonials.
