The 5th Annual Operation Access Super Surgery Day at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center was a super success! Needy patients received 29 donated surgical and specialty services on the morning of March 7, 2009, thanks to over 90 medical professionals and 20 other volunteers who donated their skills and expertise to help bridge the healthcare gap.

The question of how to provide healthcare for the medically underserved is decidedly different than how to provide surgical care for the medically underserved. Effective delivery of surgical care to this population requires coordinated donation of the services of all members of the surgical team and is contingent on committed support from the hospitals and surgi-centers where such care can be provided. Operation Access has a proven model that takes all of these factors into consideration and implements it in such a way that honors the patients in need, caregivers, hospitals, and their communities.
